| Why I had Laser Refractive Surgery and how it has benefited me... |
| NAME: Amy E.
Occupation: Insurance Clerk Before I had my LASIK surgery my prescription was very high. Now I don't wear any correction. Being able to see well when I first wake up is fabulous. Now, I no longer use body wash by mistake in the shower instead of conditioner, nor do I try to brush my teeth with first aid cream. Having the LASIK surgery was one of the best things I ever did for myself. I had a longer recovery time than some of the others, but my prescription was a lot higher than theirs also. I am right on target in my healing process and things look wonderful. I can't tell you how thankful I am that I was given this opportunity to change my life so drastically. Thank you to everyone involved. What a wonderful experience. |

Occupation: Ophthalmic Technician Age: 21 Imagine waking up and being able to see the clock across the room, without any glasses or contacts. What a wonderful feeling. I can't remember a time when I was able to do that. Being a very outgoing person I enjoy sports and outdoor activities. Unfortunately wearing glasses or contacts could often be a pain. Now I have the freedom to do anything without a worry. I can honestly say that having LASIK was the best thing I've ever done. Dr. Weiss made it easy to understand, and he took a lot of my fears away. He also took the time to explain any questions I had. Thank You - Dr. Weiss! |

Age: 39 My fairytale started when I read in the paper that Mark Durocher was going to speak at the Michiana Eye Center & Facial Plastic Surgery about LASIK surgery. I don't know him personally but I feel like I do. I almost didn't go because we could not afford the surgery, even with the payment plan. I was very interested in the procedure because I've worn glasses for 28 years. The seminar was very informative and nicely done. When Mark said my name as the winner of the free surgery, I cried, I was shaking so hard I could hardly raise my hand. Since my surgery was free, I thought they'd stick me in next year sometime. But no, I was scheduled on the very next surgery date. On my first appointment I noticed everyone was so nice, I thought it was because I won but no one knew I was the "free" case. I was impressed with the people in the office, from the receptionist to the doctor, they all took their time explaining everything in detail. I didn't feel like cattle being herded through, like at some offices. On the day of surgery, I had to wait a long time. The receptionist went and checked on the schedule for me, not too many people would take the time to do that, most would not care. The nurses were all kind and very calming. The actual surgery was unreal, there was no pain at all. It was a great light show, they have you hold a bear and they hold your hand the whole time. I first thought it was silly, but let me tell you this 39 year old, loved it. It was so warm and a caring thing to do. I was a little scared because everyone told me I'd see great the next day and I couldn't see anything up close. I went outside and could see way down the block Before I would just have saw blobs of color. I was nearsighted and had pretty bad eyes. It took about 3 weeks before I could read anything clearly. The worst part is taping the disk over your eyes at night, but that doesn't last long. The only bad side effect is that I kept pushing up my missing glasses. Tee Hee. The whole experience was truly a dream come true and Dr. Checroun is my hero. |

I have worn glasses since the sixth grade. They were the first thing I put on in the morning and the last thing I took off at night. Glasses gave me a world of detail, yet it was becoming an inconvenience. The LASIK opportunity has given me freedom from glasses. They do not define my appearance anymore. People see my eyes not the glasses. Before the LASIK procedure I had two experiences without glasses that made me feel threatened and defenseless. I broke my glasses in high school. The hallways were scary even though I knew the building well. Huge human beings without faces rushed by me and I hugged the walls. The other time was college freshman initiation. I left my glasses in the room and threatened my roommate with her life if she left my side. Rolling down a hill covered with food - not good. To be able to see is such a freedom and a comfort. LASIK is a wonderful miracle and a precious gift. |

Occupation: Optician Age: 28 I decided that laser refractive surgery would help me to decrease my dependence on glasses, and or contacts to a great degree. After surgery I could immediately see a difference. I feel that my life was made so much simpler. I no longer have to get up and take my contacts out if I fall asleep on the couch. I have given away all my contact lens solutions and made more space in an overstuffed linen closet. I would make the decision again to have LASIK in a heartbeak. "I love it". |

Occupation: Ophthalmic Technician Age: It has been just one week since my LASIK surgery and I am enjoying my new vision tremendously. It's nice being able to get up in the middle of the night and be able to see. To lay in bed at night and watch television without falling asleep with my glasses on is wonderful. The most enjoyable benefit of the LASIK procedure is that I can see what my son is doing at all times. Before surgery when getting ready in the morning I would try to watch him but would have to run and grab my glasses to see what he was getting into. Now it's crystal clear. Thank you for this opportunity. |

Occupation: Ophthalmic Technician Age: 31 All I can say is amazing!! Thank you so much for this wonderful change in my life. I've worn glasses since I was 9. They were a part of me and my life. People who don't wear corrective lenses will never be able to comprehend the dependency and limitations that they create. When I was finally old enough for contact lenses, I would wear them occasionally but I could never wear them for very long. They were uncomfortable and made my eyes feel dry. So at the age of 29, I jumped at the opportunity to make the change, I couldn't wait. Prior to my LASIK procedure my vision was 20/400 without my glasses and I was about a -4.00 with astigmatism in both eyes. The procedure was performed by Dr. Richard Weiss on November 20. My vision today is 20/20 od and 20/15 os without correction. Thank You! Thank You! I've worked for Dr. Weiss for 4 years prior to my own surgery. I could explain and educate patients adequately on the procedure, but now I have confidence and enthusiasm about the patients potential outcome that I didn't or couldn't before. So once again, Thank you for my new found confidence and freedom, improving my job performance, and making my world a whole lot happier! |

I got my first pair of glasses in the second grade. I was thrilled but soon this excitement ebbed and I began my life of dependence of glasses or contact lenses. In the eighth grade I got may first pair of gas perm contact lenses. They were tough to get used to but soon I was wearing them 15 hours a day. I hated wearing my thick and ugly glasses. When I started college I decided that I wanted to become an optometrist and I applied for a job with my optometrist, Dr R.O. Vore OD. While working for Dr.Vore I tried everything from disposable to soft toric lenses but nothing gave me the vision like my gas perms. However, my gas perms were becoming very uncomfortable and I found myself taking them out as soon as I got home for the evening. They were causing my eyes to become very dry and I had to use eyedrops often. I had heard about corrective laser surgery and I even did speeches on it for my speech class but I knew that being a college student I could not afford to have the procedure done. Then one day I went into work and Dr. Vore came out of his office beaming and hands me a letter. It was the letter that Dr. Weiss had sent Dr. Vore telling of the ambassador program. I was thrilled and quickly call Michiana Eye Center & Facial Plastic Surgery to set up pre-lasik examination. Everything went well and I scheduled my surgery. Surgery went well and the nurses had to keep telling me to keep my eyes shut because I wanted to look at everything. I went home and slept the day away and by that evening I could not stop talking about how clear everything was. The next month my vision fluctuated but it was always good enough that I could see to take notes in my classes and I passed the vision examination to get my license changed. My vision continuses to improve and I am in awe every morning when I am able to roll over and see the alarm clock clearly. Thank you for making the ambassador program available to me. |

Age: 35 The LASIK surgery has changed my life completely. I would like to thank the good Lord above for watching over Dr. Weiss and I to make the surgery a success. I have worn glasses or contacts since I was ten years old. I am 35 years old now and no more hassles with either one. It is the little things that you notice so much like not having to clean your glasses coming out of the rain or waking up in the middle of the night and seeing your alarm clock. If you are a good candidate for LASIK surgery than you should have it done. Thanks again to Dr. Weiss and his staff for making another patient very happy. |

Occupation: Ophthalmic Technician Age: 20 Because of my astigmatism, I had to wear toric contact lenses which really irritated my eyes. The surgery gave me good vision without the need or discomfort of contacts. I can do all activities now without contacts or glasses, which I never could have done before the surgery. Thank You. |

Occupation: C.O.T. Age: 26 I had refractive surgery in May of 1999. I was unable to wear my contacts comfortably due to dry eyes and didn't like wearing my glasses when playing sports. I was amazed at how my vision was so clear even the day of the procedure. The next morning I woke up at 5:00 a.m. and my vision was crystal clear. I jumped out of bed to look across the street and everything was so bright and clear. I would do it all over again. The LASIK procedure was so easy and quick. |
